Writer's Block: Change of Law
[Error: unknown template qotd] This took some thought, and there are so many possible answers but for today? Ok... The law that made it so that a Presidential Candidate could chose who his Vice President would be to be rather than the Vice President position going to the candidate with the second highest number of votes.
Consequences? More choice for the people. Think about this. McCain and Obama come in first and second. That's obvious right now. It doesn't matter what order. They have to work together, they know each other's strengths and weaknesses after months of picking each other apart. Since they are from opposing parties we have a truly bipartisan team in the executive positions. The majority of people are represented since both of them take seats, (Don't kid yourself that the Veep doesn't have any power. He's the Senatorial tie breaker for one thing.)
I joked before they picked their own running mates that Obama should choose McCain as his, and McCain should choose Obama as his. And some while back constitutionally this would have been the case after the electiong. Front runner and second runner = Prexxie and Veep. That's how it was. That's how it should have stayed. More people would have been represented especially in a tightly contested race. Instead, we have one party win by such a close margin that wholly half our nation ends up disenfranchised and disillusioned for at least 4 years. Even if that party can take control of congress the best they can hope for is a stalemate as they are not represented at all in the executive branch.
