I'm pretty sure you've already seen this, but you can have three graphs of the the Rat-Dog-Thing battle from Michael's point of view. You'll note that he does NOT think what Kai is doing is as helpful or cool as Kai does.

The noise increased exponentially as the door swung open. I spun, reaching for my sidearm on the table, expecting the mother of all rats to be coming through, but instead, it was my ‘wife’ running out waste ammo on a hundred rat-dogs. I reached for Control, “Kai!” My voice was barely strong enough to speak, there just wasn’t enough of it to use Command on her. The door slammed in front of me before I could grab her and haul her back inside. Damn it! I pulled on my coat and gave the AR-15 a quick inspection, snapping off the safety as I pulled the door open and stepped through it myself.

My ‘partner’ was quite busy wasting ammunition by spraying bullets in wide arcs on full automatic. Certainly it was keeping them at bay, but until she’d stirred them up, the most damage they might have done was to scratch up my car while they scavenged for food. I tried to shout at her to get back inside and leave them alone, but I didn’t produce enough voice that I could hear it. With a sigh, I leaned myself up against the doorframe with my rifle and started picking them off one by one, meanwhile trying to clear my throat enough to shout at her and be heard.

She shouted at me to get down, as if she were in charge of this mission. I found my voice quickly enough when I saw her pull a handful of mini blasters out of a pocket “What in hell do you think you’re doing?” I shouted at her. Too late–she had already thrown them into a big cluster of the animals. I ducked back into the doorway as far as I could, shielding my eyes and ears as well as I could from the violent snap and flash multiplied half a dozen times.
