Still making the thing

So... the mockup is ... well, it did its job as a mockup.  But the dart is WAY off. it's like 2 inches too low.  So I'll have to redraw the pattern.  I'll never be able to button this one. lol.  That said, it allowed me to figure quite a few things out. I may go ahead and sew the final seams and finish the edges. I don't know. It's only basted together at this point, so it's not really meant to be worn, It would be pretty difficult to actually reinforce it the way it is.  It's really just a sizing tool.  I really needed that dress form I put on my wishlist, so now that the gifting period is over I think I'll just buy it for myself.  I want to sew the final seams just to make sure I understand how to do it, so I'll try to do it with a little more room, and maybe that will make a difference. We'll see.  The fabric is just clearance stuff, but it's cute anyway, and I'll probably mock up another to test the dart a second time before I actually make the real thing and finalize the pattern on cardboard.  Anyway, it's starting to look a little vesty.

I make a thing

I am.  Right now I'm working on the mockup.  I sewed my first four darts ever (to my remembrance) and certainly the first four that I actually added to a pattern I drew from another similar article of clothing and made changes to in order to make it fit better.  Right now it's not in a 'try onable" state, because it's FULL OF STRAIGHT PINS... But before, I slouched it over my shoulders just to see how the various parts would hit, and it looks like it's working so far. Right now I'm just basting it together, so before I actually do that all the way around, I think I'm going to baste all the sides together just so I can see for real how it's going to lie.  I don't want to wait until after I"ve already enclosed everything because the sides are normally the LAST thing you sew, and I don't want to do all that work just to find out that I need to undo everything and make adjustments..  if it works, I might just sew it regular instead of basting it, because that would allow the mockup to become an actual THING, because it would mean my pattern is already correct and I can just continue on to the project. But since I cut all this fabric and it's not awful either (even though it was bought to waste on trying out the pattern and tweaking it if necessary) I wouldn't be mad if this ended up being a thing too. Lol

ETA:  I meant to also say that I wrapped some more presents before I started fooling with this thing again.  So I'm caught up with that again. Until the next things arrive. Lol

This Flurry of Activity!

Whew. Holy cow. This has been such a busy month.  First working in Retail during the holidays. That's busy enough, but then there is also the stuff to DO with the holidays. Decorating, shopping, wrapping presents, shopping more lol (Yeah... I did that.  I wrapped 90% of my presents and then went online and bought some more lol!), Making new festive holiday masks for work.  AND because my old Nutcracker festive holiday vest is not only wearing out and fraying now, it's too tight! I lost almost 10 pounds since October.  Why oh WHY are my BOOBS popping the top button... WHY BOOBS? WHY!?

So in addition to all that, because my vest won't last another year, I have also been learning how to make a vest so I can make myself a NEW festive holiday vest. I learned today how to sew a dart. What's a dart for you ask? It's to make room for my... BOOBS. Yes. I traced the pattern off my existing vest, and learned how to modify a pattern to add a dart. So I made it an inch or so bigger at the sides and added the dart to the new pattern.  I bought some clearance Xmas fabric to use for making mock-ups (aka prototypes that won't waste the fabric purchased specifically for the final product) which, if I've done this right the first time, will actually result in a festive holiday vest in and of itself since it is also festive. lol.  I sewed two darts and have two to go which I did not do today because I was too lazy (too busy actually) to take the time to change the thread for the lining fabric.  I might do that tomorrow and then maybe baste the thing together to test the fit.  I've left enough seam allowance to actually tweak it a little. Mistake? I forgot and sewed the darts with a real seam instead of basting, so if it's wrong, I'm spending a couple of hours picking those two seams instead of a couple of minutes.bleh.

On top of that, there's all the stuff to do with settling my brother's estate.  Meetings two weeks in a row on my day off, both of which ate into a large part of my only weekday off, and a lot of other things not getting checked off my list for that day, including not getting to go the the chiropractor when I REALLY needed to, and I'm hoping I can go on Wednesday this week, but I don't know if his office will be open or not.  I also wasn't able to call my gut doctor, and I need to ask about my medication - i.e. it costs 3 times as much over the counter as it does with a prescription... so if he wants me to continue taking it, I need him to write a scrip... and if he doesn't, he needs to tell me how the hell to stop taking it, because I tried to follow the urgent care doctors instructions and ended up in a very uncomfortable situation within a couple of days reducing the dose. I did not like that, and could not function by the fourth day. I had to start taking it again. Not happy about that. Also, I'd like to pay his bill, but the bill provides a website that I can't log into to pay it, because I wasn't provided with a special code or something that I'm supposed to have to create my account? Uh... Ok...

So anyway. Busy.  I didn't work on CTT at all the last three days. Too busy.  I just want to sit down and write it now, but guess what. It's bedtime! lol... It's also thrown me off a bit that my day off changed because of Pink Sunday. So I was off today and working tomorrow... I might try to beg myself off an hour or two early if it's not too busy.  I just might. I hardly EVER EVER ask for anything or leave early unless I'm deathly ill or something. I don't ask for favors hardly ever, but I might ask for one. I have stuff to do. lol.

Happy Holidays Everyone!

Pros and Cons

Pro: I'm off on a Saturday for the first time in forever.
Con: I'm working on Sunday instead of Saturday because Sunday is PINK SUNDAY and I have to be there to run the event. Bleh.

I feel more or less unprepared (as usual) for Pink Sunday.  It usually happens earlier in the season, so I have both the sense of unpreparedness for my event, AND my feeling of unprepared to start the flurry "exit" activities to shift my department from holiday shopping back to normal shopping, AND preparing for Spring resets on every brand on the cosmetics wall in late January then STRAIGHT into Valentine's Day prep. Lol.

Technically it's not my job to do the resets, and now we also have a new position in our store, Inventory Specialist, but our IS is new to the job (but not as new to the store.) She and I are on the same page and same way of thinking on a LOT of things, but she's never done a coswall reset which is actually 13 resets at once plus 1 additional off the wall.  LOL. So I HOPE that my boss will let me be involved intimately with the coswall reset.  Almost always the individual resets that I don't at least supervise end up not being done correctly, sometimes with massive problems.  Like l'OrĂ©al last year, which I had to basically redo from scratch it was such a mess, and 4 or 16 bays of internal barcodes were accidentally removed by a third person when the first person didn't communicate very well to the third person what she was actually supposed to be doing, which was NOT removing all the internal barcodes.  SO yeah... I hope it goes smoother with me and the IS and possibly a specific shift manager handling everything.  I'll have to add this into my notes to discuss with the Store Manager at our meeting next week. I think this is also her first spring coswall reset in this store, but I can't remember. She might have already been here, but if she was it was a matter of weeks.  Not to cast shade on the last manager, but I like this manager a lot better.  Mostly it's just that we see eye to eye on more stuff.  The previous manager was a bit of a controller (and CHEAP OMG, gods help us if we needed to order replacements for things. This manager is more likely to WANT us to be empowered come up with solutions and implement them ourselves.

Still working on Roy's house.  Still writing chapter 18 in my head with nothing on paper, but I'll probably start getting into the keyboard on it in the next few days. It's just been super busy at work, and SUPER busy on my day off.  Lawyer meeting scheduled to take 30 min took on HOUR and 30 min... Next item on my list was to call the gastro doctor to ask again about my stupid pill, and they were already closed by the time I walked out of the meeting. BLEH.

Oh yeah. I also cloned the pattern from my festive holiday vest (which is wearing out. Poor thing is threadbare) Expanded it an inch or two because I'm not shaped like that any more, and learned how to add a dart.  I bought cheap clearance fabric to make a mock-up to make sure I've got the dart and the expansion correct before I cut into my good fabric.  If it goes well though, one of the fabrics is a pretty nice green plaid, and the other is a white one white snowflake pattern. So if it works, I'll have another slightly less festive holiday waistcoat that could be for Yule, or St Patricks Day if I wanted it to be. We'll see.  Today all I did on it is mark the dart on the fabric from the pattern, and mark the seam in from the seam allowance. (I made a big seam allowance, so I can let it out in places it needs to be if it does.  I can always trim it when it's done.) I had some scraps big enough to cut a couple masks, so I sewed a couple of seams on them. I probably could have finished them, but I wasn't in the mood. I'm tired tonight and just want to sit on my ass.

Anyway that's my status report. lol.  How's your week been? Ready for Santa?
