Factlet of the day

Not that I'll probably come up with any of these every day, but this one needed to be shared.

At St. Helen's School in Newbury, Ohio, unicycling is a mandatory subject. The students are allowed to ride their unicycles in the halls between classes. Collisions are surprisingly few.

And people say Ohio sucks? HA! Ohio, my friends, is awesome!

That! is! wonderful!

*LOL* I'd be in big trouble....I mean I can't even balance on roller skates or ice skates....and they'd expect me to balance on ONE wheel? NOT!

Good thing I graduated waaaay back in the dinosaur days, and in Missouri.

Ah, but a unicycle is different. A unicycle is like riding on a gyroscope. It practically balances itself.

Course, not all Ohio schools have unicycle as a required course... more's the pity. You aren't that much older than me. *thinking back* nope. I don't remember any dinos at my school... nor cavemen. You must have gone to a weird school. (Either that, or you like playing old lady or something! *snort*)

47 here. I usually don't feel 'old lady' until coming face to face with a man holding the hand of a young boy...and hearing this man had been one of my Cub Scouts that I had taught First Aid to. AND the little boy is his SON!

'Hey Bobby...this is the First Aid lady I've told you about.' 'Hello First Aid lady'

OOOOOOLD boy do I feel OOOOOLD at that point!!!!

Yeah well it was a weird school....boozers, druggies, jocks, whores, geeks and some that defied description (and could easily be related to the cavemen...or were cavemen themselves under all that filth) My mother claimed I'd come home at least once a week all disgusted about something and declare to the entire household "It's nothing but a building full of idiots! HELLO we're there to learn not ruin our lives." Probably why I enjoyed pulling practical jokes on the school at large, with help from the rest of the "Three Musketeers"....we did it, originally, to make people wake up and THINK. Then it just got fun to torment everyone at large. Apparently they're still using our pranks to this day.

I do good to remain balanced on a bicycle!

I don't feel old when that happens. Just important. Hee. I totally don't have things like that make me feel old. I have good balance. I can stand on one foot and pull my other one up to hug it against my chest so... *shrug*

[identity profile] marynachaotica.livejournal.com 2008-09-03 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
It makes you feel important? Well yeah I did feel rather tickled that the man remembered me after all that time and still called me 'The First Aid lady' At least the lessons stuck and he's repeating them to his son. I guess that's the most important thing.

Yeah well give me a tree and I can balance on one branch for as long as it takes. On one leg though.....got a problem there...especially with this inherited inner ear problem.

[identity profile] ishte.livejournal.com 2008-09-03 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
No no! Disqualified! *points points* We're not talking about just balancing on one leg either. One leg on the ground, one pulled all the way up to your chest, hugged tight tight tight and stand there. You can't use inner ear problems as an excuse for why you can't do things either. I already have had that problem for many many years. I refuse to use things like that as excuses for why I can't do anything ... Evar! Never ever ever. Those are things to overcome, not things to excuse me from being able to do anything in the world. (though I do worry about flying... *rolls eyes* not that I want to without a dragon anyway.)

[identity profile] marynachaotica.livejournal.com 2008-09-03 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Can't stand on one leg with other pulled up tight to chest. Balance is off. Trust me I've tried, repeatedly.

*LOL* I've been on planes twice....ain't going back up again....like you I'd do so with me dragon, but that's it.

Well I've taught myself how to do tiling, including using the alleged scary wet saw. A lot of gals would never touch 'those scary tools' *snort* Just wear sunblock, a hat, protective goggles and watch your fingers...you'll be fine.

Seems like every month I'm coming up with a new challenge for me to conquer. This month? Trying to not do everything at once, which makes the blood pressure soar through the ceiling. Yesterday was the wake up call when I almost passed out driving home.

Relax....relax...relaaaaaax....I said relax damn it. *grinning sheepishly*

That's definately cool!

Wow, I wish I went to a school like that ( not that I can actually ride a unicycle and all) But that's really neat. Speaking of bikes I started rideing and I love love it!

Excellent! ^_^ Glad you're enjoying it. Where are you again? maybe I'll come visit you and ride around your streets with you. ^_^

I have found that if I can get myself ON my bike even when I'm feeling a little low, that within a few minutes I feel much better. Sometimes within seconds when the warm breeze starts through my hair. (I only wear my helmet when I am going to be riding on real streets. I don't count the two blocks down my little side street to our local bike path. Sometimes I have it looped over my handlebar though in case I decide I want to go find a hill somewhere to climb. ^__^
