Controversial Questions Meme
-Would you do meth if it was legalized?
No. I prefer having brain cells, but it should be legalized.
-Abortion: for or against?
I'm pro choice. That doesn't mean pro abortion. It means I don't think I should telling other women what to do with their bodies, or what to believe about when a life has a soul or whatever.
-Would our country fall with a woman president?
Not if it was the right woman.
-Do you believe in the death penalty?
Yes. However, not when it takes decades to go through the appeals process. This should. be fast tracked and then the death should happen very quickly. That said, a death penalty should require the most advanced forensic evidence available (and I don't mean in that location. If DNA evidence is the state of the art then it should be required for a conviction.) A Death sentence should require either an unequivocal confession of guilt and or proof beyond any doubt. (Which I'm pretty sure is how it's supposed to be now)
-Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already?
It should be along with all other drugs. Legalized, and taxed just like any other product people use. People are self regulating on these things. They will use drugs regardless of the law. The law does not discourage people from using drugs. It often encourages it because it's forbidden fruit. Better to spend the bazillion dollars we waste (yes waste) on enforcement and incarceration now to remove the stigmas and build good quality free treatment centers for people who decide it's time to go straight and clean up. If people break the law, (i.e. rob stores, kill each other or whatever) they should go to jail. That they did it because of drugs is irrelevant. If the drugs become a regulated product fewer people will be killed by bad product. Dealers will not war with each other over territory. Look at the difference during prohibition and now regarding sale of alcohol.
-Do you believe in God?
I do. But I don't call her that usually.
-Do you think same sex marriage should be legalized?
I agree with James. It should be legal for anyone who wants to be married to marry the person or persons they love. If Marriage is so sacred to the straight and narrow, then let it be much much more difficult for them to end their sacred bond. They also seriously need to get rid of polygamy laws. That is enforcing the religious view of ONE group on another. (and in fact, I don't recall anywhere in the bible where it said "from now on, you can only have ONE wife" Seems to me that more than one was the norm for quite some time as long as the family was well supported.
-Do you think its wrong that so many Hispanics are moving to the USA?
Not as long as they move here LEGALLY, work LEGALLY, and integrate into our society, particularly by learning to speak English which is the de facto national language here.
-A 12 year old girl has a baby..should she keep it?
It depends greatly on the situation. Does she want to? Does she had the support network she is going to need if she keeps the baby? She shouldn't be forced to. (Shouldn't be forced to HAVE the baby either) and shouldn't be forced to give it up either. I think it really depends on whether she has the support network she's going to need until she's mature enough (note that I did not say "OLD" enough) to handle things herself. One thing that having that baby should NOT do is negate her ability to go to school, nor her ability to go to college when she graduates.
-The alcohol age be lowered to 18?
Yes. It removes the mystique. If you're old enough to be drafted (yes I understand that there is currently no draft, but our young men are still required to register at 18.) Old enough to serve and DIE for your country, old enough to vote for the policies and leaders of our nation, state and local government, then I say you are old enough to have a drink. There are people who at 16 are very mature about how they handle their alcohol consumption, and then there are some people who are 40 who are NOT and never will be. It's not a matter of age. That commercial that talks about "Those who host, loose the most" where they tell you that it's 'unsafe', 'unhealthy' and 'illegal are so full of shit. It is in fact not unsafe, nor unhealthy unless in excess, (and being 18 does not necessarily require that you drink to excess, many do not.) It is only illegal. That's all. They may as well just add "immoral" because that's what they really mean. People who have decided that drinking is immoral pushed and pushed and pushed for prohibition, and since it was deemed unconstitutional have continued to push to keep it legal for as few people as possible. This is just like drugs. Leave people alone and let them do what they want, as long as what they do does not interfere with anyone else. Now if they disturb the peace (wither 18 or 81), if they get behind the wheel of a car... if they heaven forfend hurt someone. Throw the book at them by all means. Otherwise let them have their drinks. Geeze.
-Should the war in Iraq be called off?
Eh... no.. You can't just call it off now. We should have finished the job the first time. We spent 12 years instead with the UN trying to enforce the conditions Iraq's leadership at the time agreed to in order to KEEP us from finishing the job. Now we're there, now we're making progress, the Iraqis are getting closer to being able to handle situations themselves, but for the time being they need the support of the coalition (and it is a coalition, it's not must US forces over there, contrary to how it is presented over and over and over. We need to stay and finish the job now.
-Assisted suicide is illegal..do you agree?
For a terminally ill patient it should absolutely be allowed. What in the name of the goddess is wrong with people that they would FORCE a person who is dying and in desperate pain to endure and endure and endure, when they could be allowed to die peacefully at the time of their choosing with just a little help. The idea that helping someone in that situation will get a person convicted of murder just sickens me.
-Do you believe in spanking your children?
Absolutely. I'd much rather have taught my child to mind me when I say "Don't run out in the street" by swatting her on the ass a few times until she gets it that what I say goes, than have her learn that Mommy was right by being hit by a car and seriously injured.
-Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars?
I don't know if I'd do it just because someone paid me. But it is a constitutional right of free speech, and also the correct way of disposing of a flag that needs to be retired. I might do it though just for the money, and then take some of it and buy new American flags for everyone on my block. Sure. Why not.
-A mother is declared innocent after murdering her 5 children in a temporary insanity case...what do you think?
This really depends on what happened. I mean I do know that there are things that can happen to the mind that would make this a valid case. I think though that from that point forward she should absolutely be required to be in treatment for whatever caused her condition, and if she is reported off her treatment, missing appointments of whatever, then off to the lockup she goes, whether it's the treatment hospital, or jail... but again... it depends on the situation.
-it's between you and a person who is being kept alive by life support machines..one has to die? Who?
Let's see... the person who IS capable of contributing in some way to society, or the person is not, and is only capable of using up resources. What do you think? obviously, the guy on life support has to go. (now... that's assuming that this guy is meant to STAY on life support.. not that he's some super whiz at something I can't do and he'll be in recovery in a week, and able t start contributing way more than I can in a month. then the tables turn, huh?)
-Are you afraid others will judge you from reading some of your answer?
I don't really care if they do. People judge people all the time. I don't really care what other people think of me. My real friends accept me for who I am and what I believe even if it is not the same thing that they believe.
No. I prefer having brain cells, but it should be legalized.

But seriously. I'm amazed at the responses this meme has brought out. And for the most part, I've seen very well reasoned and honest responses to it, which is a good thing IMHO.
