Ee... well I had a sort of kit getting started. But this is even better. It has hooks I can't imagine ever actually using for anything. hahaha... two are less than a millimeter. However, it's exactly what I wanted. I'd mentioned it to Mom when we'd been out at Joanne's a few weeks ago. Pointed it out and said "I am in lust for one of those." and have had to restrain myself from splurging on it ever since. I told her when it was finally in my hands that this was the one thing I really wanted, and that if I hadn't got it, that I would have gone and got it tomorrow. hahaha. So I'm pretty happy with that.
Oh and hey, on that reteaching yourself how to knit. THere are some pretty good demos on youtube. I like the knit witch. She's pretty good and easy to follow.
For me knitting is just so slow. I can go way faster with crochet.
Sometimes going slow has benefits! I actually caught myself meditating while doing some of the knitting last night. Did toy with the idea of purchasing a knitting machine, but A) WAY too expensive B) Would make more clutter C) Not as beneficial as doing it by hand.
I'll have to find those videos and watch them, there are times when a new skill is best learned by watching how others do it.
Definitely not as therapeutic as doing it by hand. By going faster doing crochet, I meant that I could make it into something sooner, where I felt like I was making progress. With knitting I never felt like I was making any progress. So it just became frustrating.
I'm starting small....maybe a muffler. I actually had an insight on a genealogy puzzle, while doing a couple of rows last night. Dug out the work mom had done on the family tree this morning, and in a couple of hours on ancestry.com found a lead which managed to fill in the blanks for two generations on Grannie's side.
This knitting is awesome! Frustrating but a great meditation tool!
I wonder... they make these ergo handles now for crochet hooks that you can plug in whatever size you want to use (so the handle never changes sizes which keeps your hand position consistent) I wonder if you just held your hook steady with an ergo hook like that and threw your yarn over with your left hand, and pushed and pulled the loops over the hook, you know let your left hand do all the work if you could learn to crochet. You might could if you held it with your hook facing up so you could work the yarn on and of it with your left thumb. Dunno if it's any interest to you. I know you're a crafty person.
Yay! I hatched your second winter dragon. Where are you posting these guys so they get so many views? You always hatch yours faster than mine now... both of my winter eggs are barely cracking and I got them before yours.
I've been posting them at http://www.thedcfansite.com
It's nice because unlike Dragon spam where you have to sit and go through posts individually because of the rules (all dragons behind cuts and all that)and click individually... You can just post your scroll and it looks for your eggs and hatchlings.. you can select which ones will be shown, so if you've got one that doesn't need views for a while you can just not select it.
THEN the beautiful part, you can just click on "popup" and it brings up a mini window that starts all the eggs in their listing on a rotating view. It changes every 15 seconds. If you have time you can spend a few minutes clicking clicking clicking, and the clicks change a frame on them main page to that dragon on dragon cave. So you can just go click click click click click... and not have to go.. click... back.... click... back... back... click next entry... click ... back... it's much better. I pulled the rotator up last night and forgot about it. it rotated people's dragons on view all night.
Isn't it though? *is delighted* Seriously I could have gotten absolutely nothing else and still been really happy. Lexi made me a scarf in the shape of a fire breathing dragon... it's so cool too. ^_^
Not just yet. Tomorrow I will try to get some batteries for hte cam and take pictures after work. I want to get some of stuff I made too, so I can post them to crochetcrochet
LUCKY DUCK!!! *is jealous* Chris' brother Jeff claims that he will get me one for my birthday, but he's dodged attempts twice now to get him to JoAnn's to buy one, so I'm thinking that I'll have to go back to my original plan of getting one for both of us at tax time.
It looks like a beautiful set, and I sincerely hope that you will get a lot of use out of it!
P.S. Chris went to his mom last month and got a TON of crochet thread (the kind you use the steel hooks for). We're willing to share some, if you would like. It's more than we will ever use!
I've run across some doily patterns that require hooks that small, to make some very intricate lacework. I even have a pattern or two for doilies, if you want one.
I've made some doilies, years ago, that required such small hooks.
That set is marvelous! I've got an old set of plastic grey hooks that cover pretty much all those sizes (except the plastic couldn't quite cover the really tiny sizes), but I really covet yours!
It's been ages since I've crocheted anything. Hm...
Yah, that's what I fgured they'd be for. I don't know that I have the skill to use them yet. Mom showed us some of that small stuff that she's made and I was just amazed.I may give it a shot over the winter. I always think that something like a doily being as the stitches are way smaller and the hook is way smaller would take a long time, you know? like doing an afghan with a normal sized hook and worsted weight yarn.

I'm still working on re-teaching myself how to knit. Almost had the first row done and something went horribly wrong. Had to start all over again.
Oh lookie....eggies!! Most go click them!

Sure, stop by whenever and pick whatever you would like. I have a couple of doily patterns I can loan you.
