Grr.

Note: I tried to send a message to my congressman asking them to support responsible oil exploration in Anwar.  Unfortunately I tried to send it by changing the words on a fill in letter provided by an anti-Anwar exploration site.  I wanted to see what would happen... Well, I erased ALL of the text provided in the letter since it was completely inappropriate, and changed it to this:


As you know, due to rising demand from nations such as China and India, and what seems to be a staunch determination by OPEC nations not to improve or increase production to meet demand, the cost of crude oil has risen exponentially for US consumers.

I'm sure you are aware that this is completely unacceptable.  Those of us with an understanding of the economics of supply and demand realize that it is a case of less supply and increased demand from outside our country which drives up the price of oil coming from outside.

Therefore it is ESSENTIAL that we begin the exploration that should have begun 10 years ago, and thus find and begin using sources of oil from within our own borders to decrease the effect of external demand, and price fixing/production controls by OPEC producers.

I am sure that you know the area of Anwar proposed for this use is so tiny in contrast to the greater part of the refuge that it would be like placing a postage stamp on a 6 X 9 foot rug.  It has also been shown with great clarity that with care, such projects do NOT harm the wildlife in such an area, simply by the behavior of said wildlife in such areas.

I urge you to support any legislation in the House, including a budget resolution conference report, that supports exploring for much needed domestic resources in Anwar and elsewhere in the US (including the Gulf of Mexico).  While it is important to look ahead to cleaner renewable fuel sources, it is also important to address the problems of today.

Then I hit the send button.  It showed me a preview of what it was going to send my congressman.  Guess what... it had changed MY words back to the exact unsuitable words that I had already erased and replaced with my own words.  Imagine that.  What kind of bullshit is that right there?  Dishonest bullshit is what that is.  Not only do they assume that everyone shares their misguided and uninformed opinion, but if they DON'T then these people will CHANGE what you have to say BACK to what THEY have to say about the subject before sending it on.
