Holiday Cheer Questionaire
2006-Nov-27, Monday 20:18Snicked from
starsongky Edited to reflect my own holiday choice.
1. Hot chocolate or apple cider? Cider, hot... preferrably sugar free
2. Turkey or Ham? Honestly? Give me a good hot cow over either of those any day of the week.
3. Do you get a Fake or Real cut it yourself Yule tree? Fake... I bought it a couple of years ago in a moment of rather significantly more financial fortitude. It is 7 feet tall (meaning that in order to put the topper on, the top branch has to be folded in half, and it still scrapes the ceiling) and came with it's own lights. The lights had to be 'enhanced' with an extra small strand the following year when one of the strands failed. The lights had to be painstakingly cut out of the tree the second year because two more strands had failed, and if I'm going to string lights it's better to just string ALL the lights at once rather than trying to fill in gaps and having bunches still on the tree that won't light ever again. Cheap ass $200 7 foot damn tree... but it still looks better than any tree I've ever had before.
4. Decorations on the outside of your house? I hang giant bulbs on the dogwood out front, and my daughter hates it even worse than she hates the tree by itself. *snicker*
5. Snowball fights or sledding? Playing in crystallized ice? I'll pass. Skating maybe.
6. Do you like hanging around the fireplace because it's warm? That and the odor of natural wood burning is very pleasant. Especially with that hot cider in hand, and a haunch of beef! *MOO*
7. Do you enjoy going downtown shopping? Once, when there were places to shop.. Oh wait.. I don't live there any more.. we have our own little downtown and yes it does have little shops I enjoy going to, and no it's not crowded... oh the joy of living in a small town. (as long as the city is not too far away)
8. Favorite Yule song? buttloads. Coventry Carol comes to mind right of... Preferrably as performed by Vienna Boy's choir.
9. What happened to number 9? See rule 7: There is no such thing as 9... oh wait.. that's coincidence... there is no such thing as coincidence. The fact that 9 is the opposite of 6 is no coincidence.
10. How do you feel about Yule movies? Well, it depends on the movie doesn't it? Some are pretty bad. But then some are worth watching at least once every year.
11. When is it too early to start listening to Yule music? Not before the day after Thanksgiving. And that means that stores should not be having Yule displays or music playing before then either... unfortunately, we're now seeing such displays and hearing such music well before Samhain.
12. Stockings before or after presents? Stockings are first thing in the morning. Then breakfast and then home presents... then it's off to visit everyone else with the big bag of presents for the other exchanges.
13. Carolers, do you or do you not listen to them? I don't remember ever seeing a group of carolers singing in my neighborhood. We have occasionally tried to get a group together to do so for fun, but it has never solidified into an actual plan. I think at this point it would be better to put a program together and just walk around downtown though, rather than trying to do it in a neighorhood. We're more likely to be appreciated as part of the holiday decor, and less likely to be shouted at, run off, having the dog set on us or shot at. *snicker*
14. Go to someone else's house or they come to you? Depends on who's turn it is. This year, we are elsewhere. I had Birdzilla. (known to the common masses as Thanksgiving dinner) In my case this year, it consisted of 13 people squashed around my kitchen table and a car table on a wide variety of borrowed mixed bag chairs. It was great fun, and exactly the kind of chaotic event a Birdzilla should be.
evilpenguini has Yule this year.
15. Do you read the Yule Story the night before Yule? No... I have been known to read Dickens A Yule Carol sometime in December though. It's such a quick read. I like Dickens, and it can serve to remind me that even in years where I've got it pretty slim there are plenty of reasons to keep plugging away, and keep my head up. I don't read narrative very fast as I like to mull over the story as it unfolds(but watch me rip through a technical manual at high speed sometime and accuse me of being a slow reader) but I can usually finish a Dickens novel in a day or two.
16. What do you do after presents and dinner? Sit around and shoot the breeze, relax, play video games. We try to clean as we go, so we don't end up with a big mess to clean up later.
17. What is your favorite holiday smell? Sugar and spice and all things nice. You know the drill... pumpkin pie, allspice, whatever kind of sweet cookie, vanilla, brown sugar, cinnebon candle I have to burn. I also like pine.
18. Ice skating or walking around the mall? Definitely skating... (though I'd rather roller skate... there's that whole playing with ice aversion.) Please note that I do not go to the mall... when was the last time you heard me say "I was at the mall." much less "I want to go to the mall." ugh... Malls suck.
19. Favorite Yule memory? I don't know that I have a favorite. I thoroughly enjoy the holidays (unlike SOME people) and can't think of any event that really stands out for me right now.
20. Favorite Part about winter? Holiday decorations (have to agree with
starsongky on this one.) It's really the only thing I like about winter other than spring.
21. Ever been kissed under mistletoe? noooo... I do not have mistletoe... don't know if I want just anyone kissing me anyway... I'd avoid standing under it unless there was someone I REALLY wanted to kiss me, and then I'd push HIM under it and kiss him.
21 questions? that's an odd number isn't it? ^_~
