2009 - Project Dump A
I may have shown this stuff already, but I don't remember, so you get to see it again maybe.

Right before I left my former job, my boss discovered that her grandson had (foolishly at age 16) made her into a great grandma. (well future as the baby wasn't born yet) So I decided to make them a baby blanket. My second ever baby blanket, and my first ever granny square blanket. I made it with Bernat Baby Jacquards in cherry berry and berries and cream. You can see from the sample how nice they work together. well I made my blanket and it didn't really take very long at all. I had to hurry too, because I was getting close to my last day of work, the start date for my new job was June 22, and I took these pictures of the last bits of things finished on June 17.

The actual pictures are bigger than this
So I started with a lot of granny squares. Just when I thought I had it all done, SOMEONE in my household stole one of the squares. I did eventually find it btw, among the cat toys if that tells you anything, but I'd already made a replacement square. Here they are all laid out less the one missing.

All the squares. Wouldn't you know that I realized after it was all together that ONE of my seams was on the wrong side. Oh well. maybe they won't look at it too close. maybe the baby will love the blanket all the more as she gets older because of that little imperfection.

After I got it all together I decided it had to have a border, so I did border based on the Tiramisu blanket using the berries and cream. I didn't put a ribbon in this, because I thought that it might make it too much of an annoyance for such a young mother to take care of. She can put one in later if she wants to. Until I got the border on it I really thought this blanket looked kind of patchy and uneven, but the boder really really pulled it all together pretty nicely. I was pleased. I did have to fudge the corners just a bit, but to be honest, I had to do that with the Tiramisu I made too, because the pattern didn't tell you the multiples to make it work perfectly. I had tried charting it, but my chart never seemed to match the real world. hahaha.

After it was finished, I washed it, and I have to tell you that this Bernat Baby Jacquards really washed up super duper soft, but it didn't go all fuzzy, so I was really pleased about that too. It looks really nice folded up, and has great drape, another thing I was worried about with granny squares and all. I took a detail photo, but to be honest, this one shows the detail much better. I'm not as steady as I'd like with a camera. These at least were taken while my Nikon was still working. Later posts, you'll see the difference when I start taking pictures with my phone. But this picture really demonstrates pretty well how soft it is and how easy the drape is.

K, so I finished the blanky, and had almost an entire ball of each color left. So my next quest was to find a use. I'll save that for the next post though. Then you'll get to see what I made out of that.
Note: crossposting to my personal journal. Sorry if you're subbed to me and get a dupe.
