Earth Children

Recently I have been reading Jean Auel's Earth Children series. I like the story itself, but now I'm starting to think the whole point of her stories is just to show off how much she knows about nature and geology, and let's not forget about the PRON. The last two books, since Ayla met Jondalar, it seems like they're 'Sharing Pleasures' every five pages or so. The scenes are very detailed and varied, and in my opinion, though the love between them is important, the constant sex does nothing to carry the story forward. This book could have been written in half the pages if not for the 3 or 4 page sex scenes ever few pages, and long pages of talk about how much Ayla knows about plant life, and how much the author knows about the geology of the land they're in and how it formed and how it would form later.

I now know what it was one of my friends thought was so great about this series. It was not the story. He liked all the sex. *rolls eyes* I'm starting to just skim over that and moving forward. I really don't need to know how big Jondalars penis is any more. It doesn't need to be described in every scene, because I already know that he's enormous and that Ayla can take it all unlike any other woman he's known. *snort*

I think I told you that, after a couple of novels, the stories read very much like Mary Sue fanfic to me, despite all the interesting information, but Ayla was so much better than ever other female she met and all the men wanted her...which just irritated me and made me decide not to read any more of them.

I feel the same way. Yeah yeah yeah....they're having sex again let's get on with the plot okay? Oh wait...is the constant bunny sex the plot? No it can't be, can it? GEESH alright already he's got a big woohoo....and the point of this is? I am thinking the author is running out of steam and ideas, so just drops in hot monkey love while she frantically searches for more blah blah blah.

I enjoyed the first one, as I recall. I gave up on the second book, though.

And she's not the last author to succumb to the plot being overshadowed by the sex. I only wish she was.
