Vectren can bite my ASS!

Let must state for the record that Vectren sucks.  Some of you may know that I chose to have my gas turned off last month so that I could concentrate on some other bills until my settlement came in (which it did after over a year and a half, more than 8 weeks after it was promised to be paid).  I made this choice, because the only thing I would be sacrificing at that point was hot water.  (and in order to pay enough to keep it on, I would have ended up with other utilities disconnected anyway.  I could deal with no hot water for a month more easily. I can heat water for bathing on the stove if I need to.  In summer cool baths are sometimes more pleasant anyway, and that's what I've done.

Yesterday being as my settlement check had finally cleared, I called to have it reconnected.  For this privilege, they will charge me and additional $40, and an additional deposit along with the remaining balance of my bill.  So today they were supposed to come and turn on the power, for which purpose, I left the basement door unlocked and standing open so they could get access to the pilot lights.  I looked forward to having hot water without old fashioned heating and hauling from the kitchen to the bath.  I looked forward to it all day long.  I checked before I left to work to make sure sure sure that the door was open.  I stopped by at 3 to see if it had been turned on... no dice... checked door.. still open.  I came home from work about 6... no hot water... door still standing open.  I called Vectren... "When is the technician going to be here? he was supposed to be here between noon and 4pm today."

Oh.. well they seem to think that their technician WAS here, and couldn't get in... He claims that he could not get access to the house even with the basement door literally standing open for him to get in.  Now let me just rant a little more about this. When I fail to complete an order. For example, if I deliver a pizza and I forget to bring their pop... or if I don't follow the instructions given and try to deliver it to the wrong place, or knock on the wrong door... I don't just get to leave, and go on with whatever I want to do.  I have to go back to that customer and finish the JOB... or if by some chance the error is not discovered until I have clocked out and gone home, then ANOTHER driver will take them their pop, or deliver their order correctly we don't tell them "Oh, well you'll have to place another order and then we'll deliver it when we feel like it, but we won't give you any kind of time window this time."

Apparently though, that's basically how Vectren works.  They failed to complete an order because they failed to follow very specific instructions.  They failed to find a door on my house that was standing wide open so they could go in and relight pilot lights.  The technician claimed that no doors were open, when he was clearly told to go to the back door... clearly was not IN the backyard at all, or he could not possibly have missed the back door.  So is he going to come out and correct his mistake tonight? NO... they will be allowed to go home for the day without completing all their orders.  I have to schedule a NEW order tomorrow. Only now, the 4 hour window is too much for them to handle.  I can't schedule it between 8am and noon or between noon and 4pm.  No... and apparently the person who took care of me yesterday shouldn't have given me any sort of window either, and the supervisor who couldn't do anything about my technician not bothering to follow instructions doesn't know why I was told that in the first place.  SO anyway... provided that they actually arrive and actually ATTEMPT to access the basement, I MAY have hot water again by the time I get home from work tomorrow, which would be really nice.  I hope I don't end up with unexpected company since I plan to spend some quality time with my bathtub up to my neck in hot water.
