LJ Cuts? Please?

Ok.. first of all Flist... I'm no saint.  I do occasionally post and forget to cut so I don't leave 10,000 words flying free on your friends page... or on a rare occasion, I don't cut if I think the subject is important enough that it needs to be in the open, and shouldn't be skipped disinterestedly. This is very rare. Usually if I don't cut, I've forgotten... and if gently reminded, I'll go back and insert one.. or often I'll look at my own work and go HOLY CRAP I really need to use a cut on that.

Not naming any names here, but some of my friends could really stand to do the same.  That doesn't mean I will necessarily bypass it just because you cut it, but if I'm in a hurry, it at least means I don't have to spend precious seconds scrolling two or three pages down to scan the next entry.  I do like to scan them before work in the morning but most I definitely don't have time to read until later. I just like to get the gist of what's going on with everyone.  I'll go back and read it later when I have time.  In the mean time, I know I'm not alone in saying I'd really appreciate a cut being used on those long posts. Thanks!

I'm learning how to do the cuts. Don't always remember....but I do try!

It IS rather annoying to have to read down through a huge rambling post, wondering what the point to the post is.

Well, now I don't mind a huge rambling point even without any real point. I know a lot of people, myself included use their journal as a way to vent about things that are bugging them and stuff... or to help themselves sort out things by writing them out. No issue there. Just find a cut helpful for when I'm in a hurry and don't want to spend a lot of time hitting page down to scan the next one. Hee. I forget sometimes too. But Semagic helps me remember that since it previews before it posts and I can go.. Oh crap that's... large... heee.

There have been times where I use my journal to vent/rage/rant...be an absolute bitch. Then I'm all bettah!!!! *grin*

So I fully understand when someone needs to vent. Lady & Lord know we need a safe medium for that!!

*hides face* I'm so smart I'm stupid. It took me forever to figure out the really obvious way of doing LJ cuts....

I guess I'm that smart too. "The really obvious way" eludes me I think. I just tell Semagic to insert a cut. hahaha. I guess people who don't use Semagic have to put in "<lj-cut text="Insert Cut Text Here">" manually. Is there another way I don't know about?

The really easy way is to just type what you want to type regularly. When finished, hi-light the parts you want cut, then click the LJ cut icon. It will prompt you with the usual pop-up that asks what to call it and you're done.

Hmm.. sounds about how it works when you use Semagic. I don't ever do my posts on the website. so I didn't know there was a button like that hahaha.
