This year Meme Thing

[livejournal.com profile] cornerofmadness says: "yay finally someone who wasn't in diapers in the 80's."

and gives me the year 1984 to reminisce about.

In 1984, I graduated from West Carrollton High School.  My graduating class was 1985, but I was an underdog, sick of the bullshit, so I took my credits and ran.  Seemed that the administration was very anxious to be rid of me too.  I came in a couple weeks after I finished, to pick up a friend for lunch, and they caught up with me, gave me me diploma and stuff, and hurried me on out of their 'hallowed halls' as if I were poison.  Good Riddance.

In 1984,  I left my job at McDonalds and started at Cassanos for the first time.  I'd asked for full time hours for months, and McDonalds couldn't manage to give them to me. Cassanos could.  I was also very tired of the treatment I was getting from one of the junior managers.

In 1984, I dyed my hair purple and Pink.  Subsequently I lost my job at Cassanos, because when I was told I had to wear a hat, I said I'd be willing, but only if everyone else in the kitchen had to wear one too.  That I was not going to be discriminated against based on my hair color.  After all, I was hired with bright Orange and Yellow hair.

In 1984, I turned 18 and 5 days after my birthday took a job as a live in child care provider and moved out on my own. This was the nightmare job.  The people did not tell me this kid had SERIOUS behavioral issues, or that the father was a complete asshole who was the reason the kid had issues (i.e. Dad would just coddle him, and believe anything the kid said) Within  a couple of months, the man had forgotten what I was hired for, and when mentioning me to others, started referring to me as 'the house keeper'.

In 1984, I drove to Cleveland for the first time.

In 1984, I lost my 'virginity' at the Rocky Horror Picture Show... in Cleveland.

That brings me to December... and it's about all I can think of from that year.

I was forced to redye my purple hair in '89 when i went to medical school

and that has to be one of the more creative places to lose one's viriginity

Well... actually, loosing one's 'virginity' at the Rocky Horror Picture Show means you're no longer a Rocky Horror Virgin... it means I saw the show for the first time. I didn't loose my actual physical virginity until I was 22.

ah yes I knew that but the way that was worded it never entered my mind

Doug... have I mentioned that I really REALLY adore that hat? it's so wonderful. You should wear it to job interviews! who in the world would be stupid enough not to hire anyone man enough to wear that awesome hat?

*LOL* I don't remember 1984 all that well...but what I *could* recall I put into my blog.

You REALLY lost it at a Rocky Horror Picture Show? WOW you were definitely a wild child back then!

[identity profile] ishte.livejournal.com 2008-01-28 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
No no... that just means I saw the show for the first time. hahaha... that's what they call you if you've never seen it in the theater.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!

Hey gosh....I'm a virgin! Whoo hooo!!

[identity profile] evil-little-dog.livejournal.com 2008-01-28 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
hee, at least I knew what you meant by no longer being a virgin. *grin*

[identity profile] ishte.livejournal.com 2008-01-29 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Hee hee. And didn't even need reminding. ^__^

Nope, not at all. *grin*

In 1984 I was working as a waitress at Pizza Hut
I was majoring in theater at Sinclair
my cat died at the age of 15
I got my first car
my Father died
I went to Florida for the first time
I got a perm that turned into an afro and cried for a week

funny that we grew up across Springboro Pike from each other, and didn't meet until years later!

Ee... and worked for Sid Davis, and hung out at Canal Street, with the same crowd apparently on different nights. We've said that before, but it is very weird.

Since I was born in 1984 I know I am not worthy to comment, but I just had to say you cracked me up. Losing your virginity at 18 and at a Rocky showiing is hilarious. Did you dress up as Columbia and throw weenies at the screen? *dies laughing*

[identity profile] ishte.livejournal.com 2008-01-29 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
No no no no! Did not loose my ACTUAL virginity.. just my Rocky Horror Virginity.. no longer a virgin to the show after that. We did not have weenies to throw. I think uh... we had popcorn and peanuts we threw. My Master was very kind and did not make me dress up. I didn't have the kind of gear with me for that anyway, as our visit to the show was kind of spontaneous.

Now I think I have to correct myself though.. I think I saw Rocky Horror later after we were back in Dayton... because now that I think about that, we saw it at the DayBel right before they tore it down to build a Rite Aid (which went out of business in a couple of years. What I saw in Cleveland with the same person was Frank Herbert's "Dune" which came out that year, and was really an amazingly long movie at the time when most movies clocked in at under two hours. This one had an actual 15 minute pee break (i.e. intermission) because it was so long. They should have put intermissions in the LoTR movies too. [livejournal.com profile] evil_little_dog and I were just talking about that.

[identity profile] netta-sloan.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
haha, I know, it was just the way you phrased it! I've never had the patience to watch Dune. I tried and kept falling asleep. LOTR had the same problem. And Harry Potter. No violence and no nudity = passed out Netta. My generation is sad.
