FIXED IT!

So if you HAPPENED to be on my page in the last hour or so, you may have noticed that it looked pretty chaotic, if you HAPPENED to refresh it multiple times you might have noticed that it was gradually reconstructing itself. Well now it's all finished. I was working on reclaiming another of my favorite layouts. Spring Argyle and now it's perfect again.

These have been a little bit of a struggle for me because LJ apparently eliminated the Bloggish theme on which I based tons of my layouts. Also PhotoFuckit said it was done existing for it's intended purpose, so I transferred all my images to Imgur and had to go through the CSS and fix every single graphic link, some of which I had not properly labeled in my code so I had to guess and try different ones until I had the right thing. I have a bunch of images that were IN my folder for this layout but which were NOT in the actual layout. So I guess I'll remove them to save myself confusion another 20 years in the future. lol

Also, I've already grown a small 3rd boob under my arm from my jab. Took a couple of days to grow it last time. Just thought you'd like to know. lol

Oh PS

I changed my layout back to Winter Snow so my flashy holiday theme will no longer assault your eyes this year.  Just my falling snow animation. lol (I feel like someone didn't like that at some point, but I do and I put a fair amount of work into it before I really knew how to make an animated gif from scratch.)

I know not everyone is that excited about my old Yule Theme "The Holly and the Ivy" but I just spent nearly 4 hours repairing it, so I'm very excited about it.  (Actually I spent about an hour and a half on this, and the rest of the time trying to figure out why I can't get my Winter Snow theme saved correctly in My Styles.  I guess LiveJournal has killed the S2 Bloggish (Unstyled) Theme and I'm rolling old school. It was the best one to work with, and all the rest of them sucked by comparison and still suck from what I can tell.

My last little piece of joy was correcting a single character in a link which put my blinking Yule lights across the top of my container.  They make me happy. lol.

I have a big day tomorrow for my day off. I'm picking my mom up so we can go meet the family lawyer over at my brother's house to assess whether it will be worthwhile to at least finish some work he seemed to be doing (he had taken the door and skirting board trim off in some of his rooms and had painted, but hadn't replaced the trim.) or if it would be better to just sell it as is.  I'm voting for doing that small amount of work as it would probably only take an afternoon or two to tack new baseboards on, and if they are not in his garage it won't cost much to buy new ones to match the rest of the house.  It looked like he had taken up the carpet and was planning to refinish the hardwood floor his office when he finished painting, which is why he probably had the trim off in the first place.  If it were my choice, I'd also just go ahead and finish that too.  Just that little bit of work wouldn't cost much even if we did hire someone to do it, and it's mostly work my daughter and I can handle having done it before in our old house.  It would raise the value of his little house, so I think that would be worthwhile not just because WE would get more out of it, but also would probably reduce the likelyhood of his wonderful nice neighbors ending up with a crappy neighbor ending up in his house.

All that said, it's really time to go to bed now.

Lol

I'm just stopping by here.  Honestly, I feel like hardly any of my friends are using livejournal any more. Photobucket totally destroyed all my beautiful themes that I worked so hard on.  It's been so long that I don't really remember how to make them again and I don't want to waste time making new ones... or learning how to adapt my old ones... OR taking the time to find a new place to serve the images from.  So I'm back to boring default layouts.  At some point I did apparently move my cute little cloud mood icons over to LiveJournal Proper.

So I'd love if anyone is still here, to get a comment so I know you're still around. I know there seemed to be a mass migration to a basically duplicated service, but I don't remember what it was called, and since I haven't been LiveJournaling with any regularity, I don't know if it's still that active either.  FxcxBook has pretty much ruined everything.  I hate it so much, but but that's how I stay in touch with family and friends so....

Since I've been writing again, having finally figured out WHY I haven't been writing, I've made some changes to my setup. No longer using my office for writing.  It's not comfortable. It's fine for stuff I need an office for, but I needed my swing arm and couch setup back. So I've been writing a lot more recently. Chasing the Trail FMA fanfiction has two new chapters and a third underway. I've been working on Gaia's Song some too.

October this year was extremely unkind to me, so I'm still in recovery from that.  The stress got me pretty sick for a while, but Docs and meds seem to have me on the right track for recovery from that, and my stress level has started to decrease now that I'm starting to feel better physically.  It kind of sucks when you're sick because you're so stressed out but being sick is the thing that has put you over the top of your stress tolerance.

Anyway, I'll leave it there. Give me a shout out and i'll try to check back and see how things are going.

PS if you have a photo sharing site you use to serve pictures, let me know what you're using and I'll check it out.  I told Photobucket to kiss my ass.  I took everything off of it and uploaded one 'artwork' that basically said "Goodbye Photobucket! You suck now" lol

Oh and WOAH!  Photobucket... what the hell has happened to you... All my cute little handmade mood icons have turned into this giant "BUY MY SUPER EXPENSIVE $$$$400 A YEAR PACKAGE IF YOU WANT TO BE ABLE TO HOTLINK YOUR PHOTOS TO LIVEJOURNAL OR ANYTHING!!!$$$"

Seriously? WTF... Anyone using custom mood icons?  Where are you hosting them now? I've been gone too long... This ugliness needs to go away quickly.

Autumn Layout

I had forgotten that I finally designed an Autumn layout that I actually liked. So I thought I ought to change it before it's winter. I don't think I changed my Spring layout to Summer until it was almost Autumn. I haven't designed a layout in forever and ever. Seems like at least a couple of years. I just don't spend as much time online as I used to, and much of my online activity is done on my smartphone.

I'm guessing my posts must be made of utter and complete boredom the last couple of times. Either that or I need to get a few more friends. So many people on my friends list are gone, or inactive or deleted. Lol Talk to me people. Let's have a conversation about something.

The Holly Green,
The Ivy Green,
The prettiest picture you've ever seen.
It's Christmas in Kilarney,
And all of the folx at home!

(my favorite version here, performed by the Irish Rovers)

PS: Yes I know this is early but I was trying to find my Autumn layout, and it apparently no longer exists? (WTF?) so I put on my The Holly and the Ivy one for now since tomorrow is official putting up the Yule Tree day, and the landlord finished correcting our light switch to outlet connection just in time after nagging him for two years about it! hahaha!

New (old) Style

Ok... So that green bubblegum layout I found was really cute for a minute. I first looked for something like it because I had accidentally overwritten my wonderful Spring Argyle layout from last year when I was working on a new layout for [livejournal.com profile] queenofhearts. (which came out really cool, go look at it and tell her to start writing again.)

However, I kind of got tired of it. It had elements that I DON'T use, and didn't have some that I do use. So I opened up the style sheet for my Argyle spread, and fixed it.  And it took some doing too, because there were some things that did not want to align properly any more for instance, I had to tell the beta column to be in an absolute position, other wise it would drop below the alpha whenever the window got narrow enough that 75% of the width was more than the whole width minus the 275 pixels that are the minimum width of the alpha column. (this is because the calendar background will go wonky if the alpha column doesn't stay the same width all the time btw).

So thankfully it's back as it should be, and you'll get to look at my wonderful pastel pink, green and yellow argyle background with all the lovely colors of spring flowers and stuff. Sorry for those of you who can't get past your anger with pink and recognize it for the perfectly valid color that it is.  Just focus on the nice green and yellow that is actually more prevalent than the pink bits you are focusing on! hahahah!

I even updated my old argyle default icon to make a no frame version.

As such, I have updated my layout.  I don't know if I'll keep this or not.  We'll see. This was made out of a template I found online and seemed like fun, but it does have quite a few elements that I don't really use. So we'll see how that goes.

I made this:

2011-Mar-07, Monday 20:56
ishte: Icon given by OTW for paid membership (Default)
A new Animated Mood Theme. I can't believe nobody ever made a cute heart mood theme. A couple of these were a real pita.  Sleepy had some kind of weird artifact in frame 5 that kept showing up even after I saved it multiple times, even after I remade it from scratch. UNTIL I saved it in a different folder and then once I'd established the artifact was gone, I moved it to the right one. Gee... Thanks Windows. Because obviously if I save some changes I don't want them, right?

As with the Cloud one, some of these repeat, so I'll only post the ones that are different from each other.  My favorite in this one is Exanimate. Full is fun too.  Least favorite? Probably Hungry and Thirsty. They were supposed to look like they were concave because of hunger or thirst and I don't know if that's how it comes across or not. I was never quite satisfied with the light effect.

Obviously these are designed to work best on a light background.  I wish animated gifs could have a partial transparency or that they'd come up with a new standard for animated graphics that would be like the difference between a jpg and a png file.  No such thing as an animated PNG that I know of. That would be grand. That would be ideal. I may work on these later to make them more compatible with all color backgrounds. For the moment though, it was a custom theme for a specific person with a specific layout and you're welcome to steal them if you like. caveat: please don't link them from my photobucket.

New Userpic

I stole and modified this. I couldn't help it. I hope I will never have a real reason to use it, but it's funny to have it anyway.

The original gif was bigger. I had to cull a lot of frames out of it to get this to work.

Analog Clock

I want to put this cute little clock on my LJ layout. I wish I could figure out how. I with the different layouts were consistent in what modules there were offered. Bloggish is SO FLEXIBLE, and I use it a lot because it allows a variety of layered images.  What it doesn't have though, is a free text module. bleh. That's kind of a bummer. Look at this cute little clock.

(now we will see if it will post in an entry or not.)

ETA: now we see that it did not, so what you get to see is just a still image of what the clock is SUPPOSED to look like, in the place I tried to display it, and the knowledge that I want to put it in the upper right hand corner of my page. *pouts*.

All is not lost though. I'll make myself a nice Sysmetrix skin out of it.

Wanted something to go with my winter layout and my snowman userhead (did any of you even notice my snowman userhead?).

The icon from in the posting is an adaptation I did using the sculpture Baby Winter Dragon by Amanda Martin.  Now that I have a decent house, I need more bookshelves so I can start collecting dragons again. I'm slowly but surely finding and finding places for all my poor dragons that have been in crates and stored and forgotten during the terrible four years I was trying to sell a house that was way too small for my needs.  I wish I could afford this darling, but it's $900. Just a smidge out of my price range. I'll have to be satisfied with the userpic.

Besides the icon you see on my posting, there are six others that I made:

Cut for more images of Amanda Martin's beautiful sculpture... )

So go look at it. Tell me if you see anything that looks weird. Please tell me what browser you are using.  Everything is of course optimized for Firefox and I am aware that IE is apparently not capable of reading a simple 11 frame GIF file correctly. Who knows why. I don't think I could possibly care less about IE any more. It just gets worse and worse.  I'd be interested in what other browsers are doing, but mostly if you see anything unusual or difficult that I've missed, just let me know.

I don't remember where I found this desktop graphic, but I modified it a lot, even to the point of making it wider by adding bits of sheep to either side of it as well as sky and hills. I had to put a ribbon along the bottom too so Den could be popping her bewildered head up over it amongst the sheep.

I decided to try something else with Trillian, and with this particular desktop because of the pastel finish and it not being too busy, I was able to use the astra skin and put it 50% transparent. Usually I find that transparency makes it too hard to read, but in this case it just works very nicely. I love the way it meshes with the Rainlendar skin, and my sysmetrix clock. I did find that I really need a better selection of icons though. I have several nice sets, and I fail to understand why icon makers would make these lovely sets with loads of different icons, and then neglect to include the most basic ones, which are the ONLY four I ALLOW on my desktop. (really ticks me off when programs like Acrobat update themselves and add an icon without permission.

So anyway, here it is. As always, click through the image to see it full size. Beware though that the content of the conversation I was having with 'Someone I Know' might be just one eenzy weenzy spoilish for Manga chapter 106. It's legible on the big version as it is life size.

P.S. I'm about a week behind reading LJ again. My ear has been troubling me and most days I just can't stand to sit at the computer because of it.

A Test Post

  • Some Bullet Points for a Test.
  • Because I'm making new bullets.
  • These will go with my new layout.
  • They are nicer than the ones I have.
  • I'm better at making things now.
  • Practice makes perfect.
  • I'll probably delete this later.
  • Still working on getting things to go where I want them.

New Layout

This one is just temporary so I'm not showing Winter in Spring. I'm working on a new layout for my LiveJournal right now. So over the next couple of days you may see it looking weird here and there.

OKAY!

This is starting to look much better now. It still needs a bit of tweaking here and there, but these are little things that *I* notice that probably nobody else will even see. I hit upon the idea of skywriting for the title only after I came up with the idea for the little plane with the semi transparent banner for the titles. I really like that too btw. It really works for me. I had to do the clouds at least four times before I made some I could stand. I need to reset my icon set. the gold does not match. I'll do that tomorrow though.

I know I've been behind responding to comments and not commenting so much on other people's stuff. Here are a couple of shoutouts.

[livejournal.com profile] littlechemist01 I did get your email. I still have it, I've just been too busy to respond when I think of it or when I don't think of it when I have time.

[livejournal.com profile] composer99 I responded to your message last week, but I think you have not been on.

All you people who want cold summers... please don't live here where it's supposed to be warm. *raspberries*

I know a lot of you want updates on the new job. I just haven't had time. I'm still not used to my new schedule so as soon as I'm ready to settle down here with the computer it's bedtime (wail). Just in brief, training is going well. I like what I'm hearing about the company and the contract in particular. Our contract in particular is very into giving very good customer service and not cutting corners or just interested in call volume. That's very good. We'll see how it goes once I'm on the floor, but so far so good. The environment in the classroom is a little bit like a can of sardines, but the call room floor is actually quite nice, and individual work areas are fairly good sized and nicely arranged with corner cubicles instead of straight desks (i.e. L shaped desks with the work space arranged so that we're facing the corner of the cubical. That will cut down on ambient noise as those walls catch sound and damp it into the corners. We won't have set desks. There is a clean desk policy, which means nothing goes on the desk except the stuff that is already there. So it's a little generic, but it's a call center. That's to be expected. When I leave, someone else takes over my desk. I don't want them leaving crap on my desk, and they don't want me leaving crap on their desk. It's even. I don't want to get into too much detail for the simple sake of company privacy and so on. But suffice it to say that things are going fine.

I had planned to pay my mortgage with my first check from the new job. (We get paid semi monthly) that would have got it paid early, but I decided I'd better just wait and pay it on the 24th. I'll use this coming check to finish catching up on bills. I've only got two... three... and then everything is okay again, so I can catch up these three bills, then pay the mortgage a few days late, and then on the 9th I can pay the mortgage again, and all will be well. Phew. By that time I'll be on the call floor and hopefully besides my regular pay, I'll be making commissions. That was a very nice surprise to learn that we would get commissions on calls that we make a sale, or upgrade on. It's a nice incentive, but often a customer is calling for that purpose anyway, so it's just an added bonus to get a little something extra for doing my job.

Went to see the fireworks in Fairborn. It had been raining on and off all day, so I didn't really feel much like going down to West Carrollton where we usually view them, and walk all that way in the rain and stand out in the rain or sit on the wet levee... so we just went to Community park. The show wasn't as good as the one in West Carrollton.. but it was pretty decent. Why the hell is the pool closed though? There was no water in it. What's up with that crap? Now that I get off work early enough to actually go the pool is closed? DaMnIT! Not like it's been warm enough to go swimming, but I can hope that maybe I might eventually get some summer here.

Time for bed now. Wow is it ever past my bedtime.

I am aware that my journal display is very screwed up right now, and not what you are used to seeing from me. I'm working on a new layout, and have to keep stopping to go to bed because I'm not used to my new schedule. I should have it fixed in a couple of days.

[livejournal.com profile] composer99 I responded to your question, did you get my graceless answer? *snicker*

Stole this Desktop Meme from [livejournal.com profile] cornerofmadness
Of course I rarely need any prodding to show off my desktop.

ETA: So of course I didn't really do it right.
1. Anyone who looks at this entry please post this meme and your current wallpaper at your journal.
2. Explain in five sentences why you're using that wallpaper.
3. Don't change your wallpaper before doing this! The point is to see what you had on.

Please Click through to see it full size. It looks so awesome.

ETA my 5 sentences: Obviously I'm a huge Fullmetal Alchemist Fan, and particularly Edward Elric. Lately most of my desktops have featured FMA in some way or another. I'm also a big fan of Dzioo's artwork. This features both, so how could I NOT use it. I really like the heaviness of it, and the lighting effects.

This was made from This Wonderful Poster by Dzioo posted a few weeks back. I loved it so much, but I had to clip out a part to use in order to get it to fit in my viewable area. I have permission to post the result, but please also go and look at the original which has other cool parts that I wasn't able to keep.

My thing with Desktop memes is that generally I like to see more than just the graphic people are using. I enjoy seeing their other display choices too... Like icons, and what skins they have chosen for things like (as shown on my shot) Winamp, Trillian, Rainlendar, Windows Taskbar [which is an XP DX2 skin], Sysmetrix and any other tools or widgets that are generally seen displayed.

I'm surprised I have as many icons on my desktop as I do right now. Usually it's 4.. maybe five... but I have the Dragon Egg's Sync folder now, and then a couple of little folders that I haven't finished using yet.
